1970s Steuben Crystal Cicada and 18k Gold Choker Designed by Lloyd Atkins

$5500

A vintage Steuben Cicada necklace By Lloyd Atkins, The 18k Yellow gold hinged choker with a 2 1/2" Cicada made of leaded glass with frosted and polished wings and body in the ronde bosse style attached with a decorative bale. Made between 1978- 1982 this charming creature has been an inspiration to artisans for Centuries. The Japanese netske in the form of cicadas probably inspired the craze for these fearless flyers during the Art Nouveau period.. Lalique made a dandy version. Perhaps the idea for this was born of the latter. It is an amazing jewel to handle.. soft and lustrous. The hinged necklace works with the collar bone and allows it to sit nicely on the neck. I had this in my personal collection for a while and those of you that follow me know I am slowly divesting myself of some of the hoard. This piece is not an easy find.. so yes somewhat rare. And the best thing about it.. It goes with everything. A great piece to remember the good ( or bad times ) we had with our noisy 17 year inhabitants. Check out my pics and see the one of me and pal Coolio for scale. Signed Steuben on the Crystal. 18k on bale.
