Rough-Cut Emerald and Ruby Nugget Statement Ring, 1970s
$2850
Vintage 70's cocktail ring. The 1" x 3/4" 18k yellow gold freeform ring with four rough-cut Chatham rubies and surrounding a rough-cut Chatham emerald and enhanced with three round full-cut diamonds weighing approximately .30cts in total. This off-set mounting extends to the 1st knuckle on the hand, elongating the finger. A nice trick for a ring. Nat Cabat and Arthur King, both used this idea repeatedly in their ring designs. The similar gold work and treatment of the stones could be attributed to either jeweler as well. Chatham gemstones, developed by Carroll Chatham in the late 1950's, were lab grown in the exact same manner as the naturally occurring stone. Originally cut and polished, the roughs soon became the darling of studio and artist- jewelers everywhere. The bright color and unusual play of light attracted not only the jewelers but the buyers. The bonus.. no two are ever alike! Brutalistically feminine! One of a kind. Size 7.5
