Masenza Roma Gold and Emerald Choker Attributed to Afro Basaldella Circa 1955

Italy (c1955) Gold and emerald sculptural pendant and neck wire retailed by Mario Masenza, Italy. The 18k yellow gold 1 5/8" pendant of an abstract figurative form with three articulated emerald drops suspended on a hand made neckwire choker. An interesting and Unusual piece from this wonderful house. Mario Masenza broke out of tradition by inviting his artist friends to make jewelry for his over the top baroque boutique. The Basaldella Brothers, Franco Cannilla and Nino Franchina were amongst the most productive. In Rome 1949, Masenza mounted his 1st Exhibition which would launch a stylistic sensation that lasted into the mid 1970's. This piece is not only wonderfully wearable , but collectable as well.
